Hidden in the heart of Le Marais, this intimate Parisian hotel offers a private pool experience unlike the typical luxury hotel spa. I had the opportunity to discover it firsthand.
Paris is filled with extraordinary hotels, but every so often, I discover a property that offers something genuinely different.
Maison Proust is one of those places.
Tucked along Rue de Picardie in the historic Marais district, this five-star boutique hotel transports guests into the world of Paris’s Belle Époque, where art, literature, and extravagant interiors come together.
During one of my visits to Paris, I had the opportunity to explore Maison Proust and experience its beautiful Salon d’Eau, a private spa hidden beneath the hotel.
And here’s something particularly interesting: you don’t necessarily need to be a hotel guest to enjoy it.

A Parisian Boutique Hotel Inspired by the Belle Époque
Maison Proust opened in November 2022 as a tribute to the French novelist Marcel Proust and the artistic world of his era.
Designed by renowned interior decorator Jacques Garcia, the property embraces an aesthetic of rich fabrics, decorative antiques, intimate salons, and carefully curated artwork.
With just 23 rooms and suites, it offers a very different atmosphere from Paris’s larger palace hotels.
Each accommodation is individually designed and inspired by personalities connected to the literary and artistic world of Proust.
The hotel is part of Collection Maisons Particulières, which also includes Maison Souquet, another beautiful Parisian property I’ve had the opportunity to explore.
But while the rooms and salons are extraordinary, there’s one experience that particularly distinguishes Maison Proust.
The Salon d’Eau: A Private Spa Hidden Beneath Paris
Descending into the hotel’s Spa La Mer reveals a space that feels entirely separate from the streets of Paris above.
The Salon d’Eau draws inspiration from Moroccan craftsmanship, with intricate tilework, carved architectural details, soft lighting, and a dramatic indoor swimming pool.
The 10-metre pool is surrounded by elegantly tiled columns, with lanterns casting warm reflections across the water.
Moroccan artisans contributed to the remarkable craftsmanship, incorporating marble, traditional tiles, and tadelakt, a polished plaster technique used in Moroccan architecture.
The spa also features a steam room and dedicated treatment suites offering La Mer skincare treatments and massages.
Rather than a conventional hotel spa with a busy communal swimming pool, the Salon d’Eau is designed around privacy and a sense of escape.

My Private Hour at Maison Proust
One of the highlights of my visit was having a full hour reserved in the Salon d’Eau.
What makes this experience particularly appealing is the opportunity to enjoy the pool and steam room privately, without sharing the space with other hotel guests.
In a city where even the most luxurious hotels can feel busy, the idea of having a beautifully designed wellness space reserved exclusively for you is something special.
It’s an experience I would consider for a romantic Paris getaway, a honeymoon, a special occasion, or even a solo traveler looking for a peaceful escape.
And because I was able to see the property and experience the spa firsthand, it’s the kind of detail I can explain to clients beyond simply showing them a hotel listing.

Can You Book the Maison Proust Spa Without Staying at the Hotel?
Yes. Maison Proust offers private Salon d’Eau reservations to both hotel residents and outside visitors.
According to the hotel’s published spa menu, the current arrangements are:
- Hotel guests: One 60-minute private Salon d’Eau reservation is included with their stay.
- Non-hotel guests: A 60-minute private reservation is listed at €200.
- Opening hours: The spa currently operates from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Treatments: La Mer facial treatments and massages are available separately.
Reservations are subject to availability, and rates and policies should be reconfirmed directly with the hotel.
This is a particularly useful option if you’re staying elsewhere in Paris but would love to experience one of the city’s more distinctive private pools.
You can also incorporate the spa into a longer stay at Maison Proust, allowing you to enjoy the hotel’s accommodations and surrounding neighborhood.
What About the Rooms and Suites?
Maison Proust is more than a beautiful spa.
The hotel’s 23 individually decorated accommodations range from intimate 20 m² Deluxe Rooms to expansive suites designed for longer stays and special occasions.
Junior Suites measure approximately 30 m², while larger suites provide additional living space, with certain configurations accommodating two or three bedrooms.
The interiors continue the hotel’s literary theme, incorporating rich textiles, ornate furnishings, paintings, and decorative details inspired by Parisian artistic history.
For travelers interested in distinctive boutique hotels, the appeal is not simply having a luxurious room.
It’s staying somewhere with a strong identity, where the design tells a story.
Room category selection is particularly important in a property like this, as the layout, dimensions, and individual décor can vary considerably.

Who Would I Recommend Maison Proust For?
Maison Proust isn’t necessarily the right hotel for everyone, and that’s part of what makes it special.
Its interiors are intentionally rich and dramatic rather than minimalist.
For travelers who love art, history, romantic design, and hotels with a strong sense of personality, it offers a memorable experience.
I would particularly consider it for couples, boutique hotel enthusiasts, special celebrations, and travelers who want to stay in the Marais.
The neighborhood itself is one of my favorite areas to explore in Paris, with independent boutiques, galleries, cafés, historic streets, and restaurants all within reach.
And for those who aren’t staying overnight, the Salon d’Eau offers an opportunity to experience a little of Maison Proust’s world without reserving a room.
Is the Maison Proust Private Spa Worth It?
If you’re looking for a standard swimming pool or a quick spa visit, there are plenty of alternatives in Paris.
But if you appreciate privacy, distinctive architecture, and an experience that feels thoughtfully removed from the ordinary, the Salon d’Eau offers something quite different.
The value is in the setting and exclusivity, rather than the size of the pool or the number of spa facilities.
For me, it’s a wonderful example of how the details behind a hotel can become just as memorable as the destination itself.
